A Study on MgnV2O5+n Oxygen Carrier for Chemical Looping Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Ethane
https://doi.org/10.1007/s11814-026-00714-2
Abstract
This study investigates a series of MgnV2O5+n (n=1, 2, 3) oxygen carriers referred to as MV1, MV2, and MV3 for
chemical looping oxidative dehydrogenation (CL-ODH). The materials were synthesized via a sol-gel method, and their
structural, redox, and catalytic properties were evaluated over 10 cycles. After cycling, both MV1 and MV2 exhibited
the formation of secondary phases (MgV3O8 and Mg2V6O17, respectively), while MV3 retained its framework. Among
the samples, MV2 demonstrated notable catalytic performance, achieving 85% ethylene selectivity and 14.5% ethylene
yield. This performance is primarily attributed to the balanced redox characteristics of the Mg2V2O7-based framework,
accompanied by structural modification during cycling.
