Abstract

Natural fiber-reinforced composites (NFRCs) have gained prominence as an environmentally sustainable replacement for synthetic composites, driven by rising ecological concerns. This study conducts a unique bibliographic analysis of NFRCs, concentrating on significant fibers like flax, jute, hemp, and sisal. It thoroughly reviews their mechanical properties, fabrication processes, and applications across various industries. The study uses bibliometric data to track evolving research trends, including advancements in fiber treatment, hybridization, and the development of biodegradable resins. Although NFRCs offer several benefits, they face issues such as fiber-matrix incompatibility, moisture sensitivity, and reduced mechanical durability. This review examines innovative solutions such as advanced surface treatments, the integration of nanotechnology, and multi-scale reinforcement. The study also offers a forward-looking perspective on the potential of NFRCs in next-generation sustainable materials, highlighting their role in automotive, aerospace, construction, and biomedical sectors. By addressing knowledge gaps, this review provides a resource for researchers, manufacturers, and policymakers, contributing to the future adoption of NFRCs in various industries and fostering sustainable material innovations.
