에탄올 발료 부산물을 고려한 증류공정의 개발
Process Development for the Distillation of Ethanol Considering By-products
Saccharomyces cerevisiae를 이용하여 에탄올을 생산하는 경우 최종 대사산물인 에탄올 이외에 glycerol(포도당의 1.80%), acetaldehyde(1.50%), acetic acid(1.10%), lactic acid(0.13%) 및 formic acid(0.10%)등이 생산된다. 이들 발효부산물 중에서 비교적 생성량이 많은 glycerol, acetaldehyde 및 acetic acid등이 증류공정에 미치는 영향에 대하여 알아보았다. 발효부산물이 증류공정의 기액평형 및 이론단수에 미치는 영향은 무시할만 하다. 그러나 연료용 에탄올의 규정치를 맞추기 위하여는 적어도 acetic acid의 경우에는 이론단수가 10단, acetaldeh-yde의 경우에는 11단의 증류탑이 추가로 필요하다.
The major by-products in ethanol fermentatiion by Saccharomyces cerevisiae are glycerol(1.80% of glucose), acetaldehyde(1.50%), acetic acid(1.10%), lactic acid(0.13%) and formic acid(0.10%). The effects of glycerol, acetaldehyde and acetic acid which are produced comparatively in large amounts were studied for the development of a distillatiion process. By-products had nearly no effects on the vapor-liquid equilibrium and the theoretical number of plate. But the distillation columns having 10 and 11 theoretical number of plates were required in the case of acetic acid and acetaldehyde separation, respectively, to meet the specifica-tions for commercial fuel ethanol.
