These experiments were carried out to find the possibility of use of peat as the raw material of active carbon.
Peat was fractionated by flotation. Each fraction then varied in composition from the high-peat to the high-ash end. These samples were carbonized and activated. The adsorptivity of these active carbon thus produced was tested by methylene blue. caramel, permanganate, and iodine test.
When ash content is decreased, good decolorizing carbon can be made from peat. The lower the ash of peat, the better the results to be expected.
